Peach Days Rodeo

Visited on 9/5/09

Get ready for some great action photography at Hurricane's Peach Days Rodeo Event. The actual rodeo runs from 7:00 PM to 9:30 PM, so part of it will be under the lights.

Plan on using a fast long lens, high ISO setting on your camera, and IS or VR mode if you have it. Another consideration is a powerful flash. This is also a good place to practice panning technique.

Rodeo admission fee is $2.

On the rodeo's schedule:

  • Bull Riding (first event)
  • Chicken Chasing
  • Jr. Bull Riding
  • Barrel Chasing
  • The Mutton Buster
  • Team Roping
  • Greased Pig
  • Hide Rack

Utah's newest state park is located near Hurricane. We plan to go out for a late afternoon shoot and stay for sunset over the landscape and reservoir. With its warm, blue waters and red sandstone landscape, Sand Hollow has become one of Utah's most popular parks.

This state park has a $10/car entrance fee.

Visited on 8/28/09

Smith Mesa Road leads to great vistas and scenic opportunities surrounded by mountainous structure in all directions. Smith Mesa Road forks off of Kolob Terrace Road north of Virgin. The road climbs 3.5 miles up the side of Smith Mesa. The views from this road are great in all directions but especially looking east towards the west side Zion Canyon National Park.
